Back in 2003, a classmate of mine, Coach Hill, asked me to help coach JV boys basketball at Hirsch High School.
Coach Hill shared that after the varsity team played their game. Varsity would give JV the jerseys they just wore to wear for their game.
I was shocked by this practice. The school did not have funds for uniforms and sports was not a priority.
I successfully helped raise over $10K to fund repairs for the weight room, basketball equipment and three sets of jerseys each for the Varsity and JV basketball team.
With the remaining funds Coach Hill and I were able to send the student-athletes to the Bradley University Basketball Camp. It was the first time the student athletes visited a college, overnight stay at a college and interacting with a diverse set of campers.
