The garden has been a huge success. Many future gardeners pick up free plants. I have taught my neighbors how to grow their own organic vegetables, flowers and shared the harvest with neighbors.
In 2019 I decided to have an annual Harvest Party. This is an event where the community dines on a played plated dinner on Greenwoods Avenue. The dinner includes produce grown from the 3x’s Chicago Gardening Awards winning garden, Greasy Gardens.
The Harvest Party showcased to the community that we can enjoy outdoor events in our neighborhood that are safe and inviting. The dinner was funded by ticket sales.
When I see neighbors stopping to admire the flowers or offer assistance; I know the cleanup was worth it to make my community inviting and safer.
